“Night 1955”
I’d love to create a little, interesting story for this piece. But I honestly can’t do better than the original. Nor can I do better than all the theories of what non-terrestrial event may had actually happened that night (and early morning).
What I can do is share why I decided to draw it.
I wouldn’t even know of this Kentucky night if it wasn’t for Pokémon and some guy from YouTube with a channel named TBSkyen Shorts. He breaks down individual Pokémon character designs and rates them. In his Sableye short, he mentioned where the Pokémon may have gotten its design origin.
In Christian County, Kentucky outside of Hopkinsville and Kelly, a group of twelve composed of family and friends—adults and minors—claimed to have had an extra-terrestrial encounter on August 21, 1955. The creatures were humanoid and appeared outside the farmhouse. But they were unanimously described as short with big ears and eyes spaced apart. They were slow movers when walking but when using their arms they moved faster and left the ground. It had long arms with large, webbed hands.
Every time the men shot at one—yes, there was a shootout—the bullet would bounce off the creature’s silver, metallic body.
And to think I only liked Sableye because he had a cool card from Lost Origins and he looked cool himself. Sableye is just a really cool, little guy.
So thanks YouTube guy.
